Saipem has secured a new offshore EPC contract from Turkish Petroleum OTC for the third phase of the Sakarya gasfield development in Turkey worth approximately USD 1.5 billion, the company said on Wednesday.
The Sakarya gasfield is located 170 kilometres off the coast of Filyos, Zonguldak, and the latest phase includes a floating production unit fed by 27 wells across the Sakarya and Amasra fields, connected to the onshore terminal via a new trunkline.
The contract scope covers EPCI for eight rigid flowlines and a 24-inch gas export pipeline around 183 kilometres in length and up to 2,200 metres deep, with pipelaying works planned for 2027 using the Castorone vessel.
Saipem previously completed the first phase of Sakarya development in 2021 and is finalising phase two, awarded in 2023. The new award further consolidates its presence in Turkey and supports national energy independence.
Saipem is a global contractor for the energy and infrastructure sectors, operating in over 50 countries with around 30,000 employees. It provides offshore and onshore engineering, drilling and construction services and maintains a fleet of 17 offshore construction vessels and 13 drilling rigs.
In Turkey, Saipem plays a key role in offshore hydrocarbons development and has been involved in the Sakarya gasfield project since its inception.
